Tidelands Inshore Artificial Reef Activity Report for September 3rd
to 12th
2002
Summary
During this time period, there were 8 trips to deploy limestone in the Back Bay of Biloxi. These are the first 7 of 24 inshore reefs to be created or enhanced.
Matthews Marine and Department of Marine Resources (DMR) personnel met at the Keesler Harbor Reef Site. Buoys were placed to mark the deployment area. The deployment method used by the contractor was to spud the deck barge on the port bow and swing it in a circular motion to disperse the material evenly in the permitted area. This method will be used for all of the inshore deployments of limestone. Approximately 100 cubic yards of limestone were deployed at this site. The material was centered around 30 25.223/88 55.367. The surrounding water depth ranges from 5 to 14 feet.
Approximately 180 cubic yards of limestone was deployed in this site. The material was centered around 30 25.389/88 55.602. The surrounding water depth ranges from 5 to 8 feet.
