Summary of Trips
There were two reef construction trips made during the fiscal month of April. Concrete Rubble was placed at the new Chandeleur Site FH-12. One trip made on April 19 is covered by this report, the other was made on May 6 and is covered in a report by Keith King of King Marine Services, who performed those spotter operations.
This report concludes spotter and monitoring contract work performed by Mark Miller of Primo Offshore for MGFB which began at the beginning of 1989. This years contract work was awarded to John Cirino and Danny Pitalo as primary contractors with Keith King of King Marine Services as the secondary contractor. To assure a smooth transition, Keith was aboard during the April 19 trip and covered the May 6 trip on his own.
Construction Efforts
This was continuing work by Dyess Construction who was contracted by Mississippi Power Company to remove rubble from their old cooling tower and deposit it at MGFB's Chandeleur Site FH-12. This constitutes the fifth successful barge load of concrete rubble deposited at the FH-12 site. The May 6 load concludes the project with load number 6. On April 19, 1994, a load was deposited at LORAN Coordinates 12311.9 (.7-.0), 47030.1 (.0-.2), and 29473.5 (.1-.6). The surrounding depth was 41 feet with a least depth reading of 30 feet.
The final load of May 6 was deposited at 12316.1, 47030.2-.3, 29477.8 with the details being covered by another report as stated earlier. The project established four separate targets with six loads of rubble. An orientation map is attached to this report that shows the orientation of these four targets within the site. In addition the map shows the location and sizes of all of MGFB's presently permitted sites. Included is an area being proposed for consideration that surrounds two existing obstructions, namely a boat and debris commonly known as the "St. Michael" and a barge commonly referred to as the "Sow Barge". The area is 2.6 by 4.9 nautical miles or 12.75 square miles. The proposed boundaries are 12450-12480, and 47020-47040.
